The conflict ended with some peace through the 1998 Good Friday Peace Agreement. Although a peace agreement was created, violence still occurs, but a lot less frequently. Peace activists like Dave Cullen and Trevor Ringland have continued to promote peace throughout Ireland in order to show the citizens that violence is not the answer.

"Why"

The border conflict in Northern Ireland was caused by many decades of religious tension and loyalty to a country. . In Northern Ireland, most of the Protestant citizens thought that Northern Ireland should remain part of the United Kingdom. However, the Catholics felt that they should be apart of Ireland.

Through out the course of the conflict, large protest groups began showing themselves throughout Ireland and Great Britain. The the mid-90s, violence began to slow down. Soon, the Belfast Agreement would be signed on April 10, 1998. The Belfast Agreement established the Northern Ireland Assembly and set up new legislative powers in Ireland. Although the conflict has died down, violence occasionally occurs. Since 1968, over 3,500 people have died.

"Where"

The conflict for the border conflict revolved around the location of Northern Ireland, but Great Britain and Ireland were also involved. The dividing line of Protestant and Catholics was in the center of Northern Ireland with the Catholics on the eastern side of Northern Ireland and the Protestants on the west. In Northern Ireland, the country was divided. One half of Ireland was Catholic and wanted to become apart of Ireland. The other half was Protestant and wanted to become apart of Great Britain. The Catholics in Ireland were considered the minority group; and they were there for discriminated against. The biggest problem that arose was the Protestants wanting to join Great Britain, but the Catholics wanting to remain apart of Ireland. This caused violence to erupt.

"What"

The border conflict between Northern Ireland, also known as The Troubles, was a thirty year conflict that was started because half of Northern Ireland wanted to be apart of Great Britain and the other apart of Ireland. The start of the conflict began in the 1600s when English rulers claimed Irish land. Protestants that lived in the area claimed by England were forced to punish the Catholic church. But in 1920, Ireland gained its freedom from England. This would cause the border conflict of Northern Ireland.
